I started work on the Official Strategy Guide to Fallout 3 in earnest on May 24th, 2008. We’re currently tidying up the final pages, and cramming every last piece of tactical guidance into both the regular and special limited edition tomes in readiness for an October 28th on-sale date. Water-tight, pain-of-death non-disclosure agreements prevent me from speaking specifically about what went on during the last four months, but I can offer some rather vague information on why I halted an already-truncated social life for the chance of exploring a post-apocalyptic wasteland instead of writing, you know, three “regular” guides.
Firstly, this game is spectacularly big. How big? [CENSORED] Yeah, that big. Just in case that doesn’t get through, I will say our limited-edition strategy guide poster is larger than most coffee tables, that I spent at least a month constructing it, and that it has more locations than [SORRY, MUM’S THE WORD]. When you read interviews with other developers, and they say “there’s weeks of gameplay in this title”, they’re usually lying. But if you’re wanting to explore every nook, cranny, and small wasteland [SPECIFIC SETTLEMENT TITLE REMOVED] out in the middle of a blasted heath, you’ll need to free up a seriously large amount of time; more than mere weeks: [NOPE, CAN’T SAY], in fact. Fortunately, these expeditions can be performed in [A DIFFERENT, AND SUITABLY VAGUE MANNER], allowing you to savor the experience, as well as picking and choosing where you’d like to visit, and how savaged you’d like to get at the talons of a [REALLY RATHER COOL CREATURE I CAN’T MENTION].
I’ve personally spent more than [A SPECTACULARLY LARGE AMOUNT OF] man-hours on this project. I’ve worked directly with Bethesda to ensure [VARIOUS BITS AND BOBS] are presented in the easiest and most methodical manner possible. I’ve worked closely with professional cartographers so that [A RATHER IMPRESSIVE NUMBER OF] maps are created to the highest standard. And teasing just one element of the “meat and potatoes” of this effort, I have to make special mention of the [NOTHING TO SEE HERE] explorations: Well, let’s just say [ACTUALLY, LET’S NOT, SHALL WE?], an experience I’ll regard as one of the most [ENTHUSIASTIC ADJECTIVE] I’ve ever witnessed.
I hope I’ve suitably salivated your interest in the game and guide. Although I’m meeting the City Folk up at Nintendo for a while, I hope to be back soon, revealing [NOTHING SENSITIVE WHATSOEVER] about Fallout 3. Until then, I’ll send this to Prima’s ace legal department (they’re sure to perform only minor alterations to my blog entry), and let you feast your eyes on this single early rendered art piece, especially taken from already-available press release materials, and not any of the [LARGE NUMBER OF PRISTINE SCREENSHOTS] I took.
see more of David’s work at PrimaGames.com
lmao
Please tell me Sulik is in the game. Answer me with a riddle if you must!
lmao! david, this kills me, i can’t stop laughing!
This was the [ENTHUSIASTIC ADJECTIVE] post i have read in [A SPECTACULARLY LARGE AMOUNT OF] months. Nice way to keep us wanting more.
Noel, this game takes place 20 years after after FO2. Sulik wasn’t a teenager back then and the way from West Coast to East Coast isn’t short, or safe. I don’t expect to see someone from the first 2 Fallout games (Tactics&BoS doesn’t count, not canon) in FO3. But it would be hilarious to meet Harold again, but by now his twig must have grown to a full fledged tree.
Nice, that was pretty hilarious.I can’t wait for this game to come out!
@ Noel, read up a bit more on this…Fallout 3 takes place like 30 years
after Fallout 2 & in Washington DC, while Sulik & such was in California.
Even if Sulik (for some reason) traveled to DC, he’d be a pretty old guy.
Oh shit, beat to the punch…
But yeah, Harold would be great to see, or Marcus or some other ghoul/mutant.
Hilarious Stuff I Cannot wait to log [A RATHER IMPRESSIVE NUMBER OF] hours into this game. This game has to be one of the biggest “top secret” games of our time! the hype is truly ART!
Any MA Filters like all the other Fallouts?
With a business standpoint revealing a MA Filter a week before game sale will boost the amount sold hands down. That’s like Icing on the gore cake! 😀
Keeping it a secret will obviously sell copies, but drive the MA Conscious individual mad as he waits till his kids leave the room, always pausing every 5 min in mid combat!
Game will make a load of doe with or without the MA Filter.
I know at least 6 people that would reserve the game money down, if the new about a MA Filter. face it….. that’s alot of logged hour of pausing if there’s going be a whole month of game play. add this desired question to the frequently asked ….. with an answer if you all at bethesda would be so kind.
[REDACTED]
Redacted- to reduce to form,
—as literary matter; to digest and put in shape
Maybe myron the nerd might make it to fallout3, he’s the youngest playable character in fallout 2 right?
SThis take place like 50 years after fallout 2 sulik’s probably old an fraile
pretty much I would only bet on Marcus who was over 100 years old or Harold who’s pretty damn old to make it to fallout 3 IF they headed west which Harold shouldn’t if you got the good ending for Gecko in Fallout 2(fixing but not optimizing the reactor without slaughtering the town)
hehe funny, much to wait for
If sulick was in his 40’s, 30 years from fallout 2 would put him in his 70’s …. with his lifestyle he wasn’t the healthiest and most likely would end up drowning in a bar.
Very interesting. I wonder how well this game will sell
[With enthusiasm] The game must be hard to put in a strategy guide. you should put down a total of hours you put in the guide, not the maps.
Was interested in article, have already bought OSG guide. Will likely buy the Collectors Edition OSG. However style of article was quickly tireing, if not obnoxious.
You guys have it all wrong…
20-40 years makes zero difference in the Fallout world:
Tandi was in her teens/twenties in FO1, yes?
Then, 80 years later, she is the president of NCR.
How is a 98(youngest possible) year old crone the president? Age doesn’t matter! Just like designing your character, purely cosmetic.
haha, Ok shes a freak of nature, the radiation got to her….. she was a feral ghoul disguised as a smooth skin. I wonder how old a feral ghoul can get? and with this sweet char customization you could totaly make your face look like a ghouls!!!
or Michael Jackson…
Tandi Born : 2145
Tandis death: AROUND 2243
yes the youngest she could have been is 98 years old.
The only reason i think that she stayed in office her whole life is because she took control of Shady Sands at a young age, changed it to a democracy. Then Shady Sands grew into the New California Republic (NCR). Without her there would be no NCR, she was smart. I know 109 year olds that still maintain 40 acre properties.
Id say she falls in one of those “strong old people” categories.
unlike sulic…. you found him in redding for Christs sakes the only fun thing there was to shoot bramin and go to the bar.
my char would prob live to bout 67. id be eatin by a mole rat while i slept…… 😦
Nice, that was pretty hilarious.
Highly amusing arcticle, teasing the fans with a sardonic two-finger salute to the gagging orders of modern storytelling [read: game and film industries].
On a sidenote – Sulik was ‘hired’ in Klamath, not Redding. Marcus and any number of inhabitants from Broken Hills could feasibly end up wandering across the Wasteland since BH disbanded no matter what you did in FO2. Myron was always killed unless you never recruited him. Gecko technically should have been reduced to sub-atomic particles for the amount of times I “aggravated” the Enclave communications officer. No matter how many times he threatened a Vertibird assault, it just never materialised.
Anyway, if any characters from FO1 & FO2 do return, I’d like to see Harold, Marcus, Dogmeat (hey, he was killed in the Military Base according to the Vault Dweller, then magically he appears in the Café of Broken Dreams some 80 odd years later. Nice doggie… goooood doggie…), and Cory the scared kid in New Reno (c’mon, a child who spent all the livelong day outside the Cat’s Paw – he’d make a great neuroses-riddled comeback). What about the “mysterious Bishop son” born to an unknown father and Angela Bishop (or her mother if your male Chosen One was not psychotic)? Skybot/Skynet/Brainbot-thingy! Goris the annoyingly slow dresser!
Failing that, at least let us have a Highwayman!
let’s see!
you did your best and effort though.
good job!
that’s right sulic was working his debt off in klamath falls.
What about good old Hard case Cassidy? him and his sawed off shotty would be lotsa fun he could go back to his bar and get a license to sell “real” whiskey.
😀
i can tell alredy this game is gonna be HUGE!! lioke good game huge! like biger then halo and Gears of War good!
